S-Lift (Mini-Face Lift)
What is an S-Lift or Mini-Face Lift (Rhytidectomy)?
The S-Lift, or mini-face lift is a surgical procedure performed to rejuvenate the sagging skin and muscle laxity that occurs with aging. This type of face lift affects the lower third of the face, and is ideal for patients from age 30 to 60, who want a refreshed and youthful appearance with minimal downtime.
How is an S-Lift (Mini-Face Lift) Performed?
The S-Lift is typically performed in the surgical suite in our office, and takes about 2 hours. The type of anesthetic used may vary with each patient - some may choose an injection of a local anesthetic and others may be more comfortable with light i.v. sedation. The incision is made along the front of the ear, and the skin is gently lifted and the muscles underneath are tightened. Any excess skin and fat is removed, and the incision is closed with tiny sutures. Some patients may also choose to undergo liposuction of the neck at the same time for a more dramatic result.
What is the Downtime for an S-Lift (Mini-Face Lift)?
A patient should plan on about a week of downtime for a an S-Lift, and 2 weeks to return to full activity. Most people will experience bruising and swelling, and a compression wrap will be worn around the head during that time as well. Sutures will remain in place during the first 2 weeks, and no cosmetics should be used until approved by Dr. Cole. This is important to reduce the risk of infection. Numbness may be experienced for 6 months to 1 year, which is completey normal, as the nerves have been partially separated and the need time to heal. The final results of the surgery will be visible anywhere from 4 months to 1 year.
