Latisse Eyelash Growth

Lashes Thinning as You Get Older?

With Latisse, you can enjoy more than double their fullness in 16 weeks.

You may be surprised to know that medical journals have linked thinning and loss of eyelashes to aging.

Perhaps you’ve noticed a change in your lashes over the years. Have they lost their fullness? Do they appear shorter? Or lighter in color? If so, it’s time to consider Latisse — the only FDA-approved product that grows lashes, increasing their overall prominence.

Latisse can grow thinning lashes.

Latisse makes lash growth possible because of its active ingredient: bimatoprost. Although the precise mechanism of action is unknown, Latisse is believed to affect the growth phase of the eyelash hair cycle in two ways: first, it increases the length of this phase, and second, it increases the number of hairs in this growth phase.

The solution is a once-nightly treatment you apply topically to the base of your upper eyelashes, as instructed by Dr. Cole. Then, gradually, your lashes will grow in fuller and thicker. You may start to see more length in as little as 4 weeks and you should achieve full growth in 16 weeks.

Your eyelashes will experience real measurable growth.

Latisse works from the inside out. As the treatment progresses, you’ll first begin to see changes in length. Then, gradually, you’ll notice more thickness and darkness in your lashes. If you’re satisfied with your results by week 8, don’t stop there. Stick with the treatment. After week 16, you’ll see the full effect of Latisse solution — and so will others. After that, you can talk to Dr. Cole about ongoing use to maintain your eyelashes.

Consider an Eye Lid Lift (Blepharoplasty) to Rejuvenate your Appearance

by colemd
August 23rd, 2011

Do your eyelids have bags or droop down? Do you always look like you stayed up too late?

Unfortunately, the skin around our eyes is very thin and delicate. As a result, it can be one of the first areas on our face to show signs of aging.

Saggy, baggy eyelids can give you the appearance of being tired or angry, even though you feel great and are making amazing strides in your career. Drooping upper eyelids can also cause functional problems and keep you from opening your eyelid all of the way, impairing your vision.

In a recent interview with More magazine, here’s what one woman said about her eyes the year she turned 50:

“My undereye bags started bugging me. They became the feature that said “old” when I looked in the mirror. I invested in countless eye gels that promised to shrink puffiness, but if they made a difference, I couldn’t see it.”

We often hear this same thing when patients come in to talk to us about the area around their eyes.

“I never thought that I, of all people, would get an eye lift,” said Jane Gauer, in her Ladies Home Journal interview, “It’s not my style. I’m a jeans and T-shirt kind of woman who applies mascara at red lights on the drive to my job as a kindergarten teacher.”

However, she continued “Not only was the loose, sagging skin on my upper eyelids making me look older than my 50 years, but it was also drooping over my lashes. This made my eyes feel heavy all the time.”

Like these women, under-the-eye bags and drooping eyelids may cause you to feel self-conscious or annoyed about your appearance.

A blepharoplasty or eye lid lift can address several different aesthetic and functional problems with your eyes, including (but not limited to):

  • Sagging or drooping eye lids
  • Puffy deposits or bags under your eyes
  • Wrinkles in your lower eyelids
  • Sagging lower eyelids that may show the white of the eyes below the iris

In a blepharoplasty, the upper or lower eyelids are tightened by making incisions along the natural creases of the upper eyelids or the inside surface of the lower eyelids. We remove the extra skin and fat from the area. As a result, you will have much less sagging and drooping in your eyelids, which results in a brighter, more awake appearance.

Recovery time from this procedure can be as little as a few days, though it will likely take two to three weeks for you to completely recover. Some swelling and bruising is common, but can be addressed with cold compresses, and discomfort can be managed with a mild pain reliever.

Upper eyelid surgery may be covered by your insurance. We can discuss this with you during your initial consultation. Lower eyelid surgery is considered a cosmetic procedure and is generally not covered by insurance. However, we offer third-party financing so you can set up a payment plan.

Here is what Jane had to say about her procedure:

“Now, almost a year later, I firmly believe getting an eye lift was a wise decision. I’d always worried that indulging myself might fundamentally change who I am. And the surgery did transform me, but in a wonderful, unanticipated way. The experience inspired me to take better care of myself inside and out: I got highlights and a new haircut, and I’m more motivated than ever to slim down. I’ve dropped more than 10 pounds so far and I can’t wait to lose more.”

If you are interested in having a blepharoplasty, click here to schedule a consultation with Dr. Cole or call us at 360-865-4941. The two of you will review your expectations and discuss the best procedure for you to achieve your desired results.

Should I Get a Face Lift?

by colemd
June 13th, 2011

One of the most common questions we get in our office from our patients is, “Do I need a facelift?”

Many women and men are using a variety of methods to achieve a more youthful appearance. Botox and other injectable fillers are becoming more popular – these non-surgical treatments are great if you have frown lines, crow’s feet, and furrows between the eyes, especially in your 30s and early 40s.

However, if you – like many people – suffer from loose, sagging skin on your jawline and neck, then a face lift is one of the most effective procedures available to achieve a more youthful look to your face.

As we age, the contour lines in our faces become less defined. And, the wrinkles and furrows that result from age-related sagging skin become increasingly pronounced.

With a face lift from Cole Aesthetic Center, your loose skin can be tightened up for a more refreshed, rejuvenated look. A face lift tightens everything on the face from your cheekbones to your collarbones. The muscles in your face can be lifted as well, so that your face can develop a stronger, younger-looking contour. And Dr. Cole is an expert in elegant, natural results!

If you are considering a facelift, you may be a good candidate if your facial skin is loose and sagging, particularly along the jaw line or under the chin.

A facelift can correct many things to improve your appearance, including:

  • Sagging in the midface
  • Deep wrinkles below the lower eyelids
  • Deep creases along the nose extending to the corner of the mouth
  • Fat on the cheeks or chin that has fallen or is displaced
  • Loose skin and excess fatty deposits under the chin and jaw – this is called a “turkey wattle” or “double chin.”

Schedule a consultation with us – we can talk about your face, skin, and the outcome you’d like to achieve. A face lift may not be a standalone solution for the results you desire. As you discuss your options with Dr. Cole, he may recommend that you combine the face lift with a brow lift or an eye lid lift. He may also incorporate injectable fillers or laser treatments.

The goal in all of this is to help you refresh your face and give your appearance a natural youthfulness. The professionals at Cole Aesthetic Center will discuss all your options with you to put together a plan to achieve the look that you want. We look forward to seeing you – schedule your appointment today.

Non-Surgical Treatments for Your Face: Facial Fillers and Injectables

by colemd
April 7th, 2011

For some people, facial wrinkles can cause self-consciousness. Wrinkles and smile lines can grow deeper as you age, and some men and women want to retain their youthful appearance. Fortunately, today there are several great options available for those looking to hold onto a youthful look without invasive procedures such as face lifts.

Facial fillers and injectables are minimally-invasive treatments designed to reduce and eliminate wrinkles from the face. They require little recovery time, so you can have these procedures done with minimal interruption to your daily life. Cole Aesthetic Center has all of these options available to you:

Here are a few of your facial filler and injectable options:

- Botox: The most recognizable brand name of injectable, Botox Cosmetic is a non-surgical treatment that temporarily softens frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead creases. Botox is injected into the facial muscles surrounding the wrinkles and keeps them from moving, so that they cannot contract and wrinkle. The treatment takes about ten minutes and is done through a series of tiny injections, and no anesthetic is required. You’ll see the results within days after your treatment, and the appearance of the area may continue to improve for up to a month.

- Juvederm: Juvederm is a volumizer that can be injected into your skin to instantly smooth wrinkles, especially around the mouth and nose. Juvederm is made from hyaluronic acid (HA), a substance that occurs naturally in your skin. As you age, sunlight and other factors reduce the amount of HA in the skin causing unwanted wrinkles and folds – like those parentheses lines around your nose and mouth. Juvederm is a safe an effective way to replace the HA your skin has lost. It can last for up to one year before you need further treatments.

- Restylane: Another form of hyaluronic acid (HA) replacement, Restylane is a great choice for adding volume and fullness to moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds around the nose and corners of the mouth. It smooths these wrinkles and restores a youthful appearance.

- Perlane: While it performs the same function as Restylane and is also made from HA, Perlane is specifically designed and formulated to attack wrinkles that need a deeper injection. The size of the particles in Perlane are much bigger, and the injection is deeper. These improvements can last up to six months.

- Radiesse: Finally, Radiesse is good for sculpting and plumping up areas like the chin and cheeks. It is a gel made up of calcium and phosphate ions – both naturally occurring in our bodies. This organic compound is made to bind with the connective tissue of the face, so the gel is permanently implanted in the face. This means that the results can last over two years. However, some touch-ups may be required.

As you can see, there are a number of different options available for someone looking to reduce wrinkles in his or her face.

Click here to set up a consultation with Dr. Cole to determine which injectable is the best option for your needs, so that you can effectively retain your youthful appearance.

Latest Non-Surgical Facial Treatments and Procedures Featured in April 2011 More Magazine

by colemd
March 28th, 2011

In this month’s issue of More magazine, there is a great article called “The New Face-lift Fill’er Up!” It is a comprehensive overview of the latest non-invasive procedures to help your face look younger.

From the article:

“Want your face to look younger without the world taking insta-note? Your odds of success have never been better. Right now the world of facial reshaping is undergoing a revolution…many current treatments result in not just cosmetic changes to your face but also in long-term improvements in your skin, with the results that it ages more slowly.”

“Here’s how it works: Fillers like Restylane, Juvederm, Radiesse, and Perlane soften lines, restore lost volume, and put pressure on fibroblasts in the skin to stimulate collagen production…Botox injections, which freeze wrinkles, can stop strong lines from ever forming. The result? Many women aren’t signing up for facelifts at 50 anymore; instead they’re focusing on maintenance through less invasive treatments, starting in their 30s and 40s.”

Cole Aesthetic Center offers a wide range of facial fillers and injectables including Botox, Dysport, Juvederm, Restylane, Perlane, and Radiesse.

How Does Laser Hair Reduction Work?

by colemd
March 15th, 2011

Many people, both men and women, struggle with excess hair on their bodies. Sometimes this excess hair can lead to a self-consciousness that affects your confidence levels and your relationships with others. If you are constantly bothered by unsightly hair and wish to be rid of it, you may want to consider laser hair reduction.

Laser hair reduction is a great investment in the overall look of your body. However, some people may be intimidated by the process, as they do not understand what is involved with permanent hair removal.

Laser Hair Removal Process

Here is a quick look at hair removal so that you can better understand the process as you consider it:

First, laser hair removal can be performed on all colors of skin, and there are multiple lasers to choose from, so your medical professional can be sure to find the right one for your skin and hair type. Once the laser light goes through the surface of your skin and into the hair follicle, the melanin in the follicle absorbs the light and it becomes heat energy, which destroys the hair tissue. Laser hair reduction is extremely safe, as it is purposefully designed to not damage the other tissues surrounding the follicle. Because the hair tissue is destroyed, regrowth is prevented, which is why it is considered to be a permanent hair removal.

However, it is also important to understand that this is not a one-time process. It is a reduction of your hair, so 5-10 treatments may be needed on certain areas of your body. But with the exception of the area around your eyes, laser hair reduction can be performed on any area of your body where you feel there is too much unsightly hair. Popular areas include the bikini line, the legs and arms, the upper lip, and the back, which is a popular choice for men looking for permanent hair removal.

This type of hair removal offers many benefits, not only for your appearance, but also for your daily life. You no longer will need to choose clothing that hides these areas, and the time you spend shaving your body hair is reduced significantly. In addition, by eliminating this stress, your self-confidence can grow, increasing your ability to strengthen your relationships with others.

What is Hyperhidrosis? Can Botox really help?

by colemd
June 23rd, 2010

Do you have issues with excessive sweating in your underarms, feet or the palms of your hands?  The medical term for this condition is Hyperhidrosis, and affects an estimated 7.8 million people in the U.S.  The causes of this condition can vary greatly, and many patients find that over the counter or prescription strength anti-perspirants and powders are often not effective.  Patients with hyperhidrosis produce an amount of sweat that exceeds that needed to regulate body temperature.

If you suffer from an uncontrollable amount of sweating, you may be a candidate for Botox treatments to alleviate the problem.  Injections into the sweat glands can help to temporarily reduce sweat production for up to one year.  It is not considered a cosmetic problem, but is often addressed to the cosmetic surgeon or dermatologist.
